This is the heartland of India, a state packed with suprises, where tigers roam the jungle, and fortified towns, temples, stupas and cave paintings lure the visitor.
Madhya Pradesh, literally translated, means "middle land". No surprise then that the people of this vast state feel that the whole of India revolves around them. It is India's largest state, having a land area of approxiately 450,000 sq.km (174,000 sq.miles). The next largest state, Rajasthan, is at least 1,00,000 sq.km (38,600 sq.miles) smaller.
