Professor Amartya Sen
Professor Amartya Sen was the first Asian economist & the sixth Indian to get Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998 instituted by the Bank of Sweden in the memory of Alfred Nobel. Sen was born in 1933 in Shantiniketan in 1933. It was Rabindranath Tagore's vision that this boy will grow up as an outstanding person.
Prof. Sen has been a very good communicator. A distinguished teacher, he is also a prolific writer. He has authored 21 books, apart from 200 research papers and articles. He covered many areas and his fundamental concern has been the well-being of people especially the poor. He has analyzed the causes of famine & Starvation. In January 1999, Prof. Amartya Sen was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian Award.
