Captain Swaraj Prakash was in command of INS Vikrant, the hub of Indian naval operations in the Bay of Bengal during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.Although the sea was infested with enemy submarines and mines, the caption's excellent strategic maneuvers succeeded in foiling all enemy attempts. The several air strikes launched from INS Vikrant devastated ports along the enemy coast. Under Caption Parkash's able command, the INS Vikrant dominated the high seas and blocked the sea route completely, shattering the morale of the enemy.
Captain Swaraj Prakash ws richly deserving of the Mahavir Chakra conferred on him for his tactical abilities and leadership.
