Major General Har Krishen Sibal commanded the 7 infantry division in Ferozpur the war of 1965.Early in the morning of 6th September, he led his division in an advance into Pakistan, the objective being to occupy enemy territory till the Ichhogil Canal.

The advance operation lasted till the 22nd of September. The division engaged in a major offensive at Hudiara, followed by another t clear clear the well fortified Burki village.As they neared the canal,the division moved cautiously from house to house before attacking the concrete empanelment on the canals east bank. Enemy counter-attacks were repulsed with success and soon the east bank was cleared of enemy occupation.

Major general Sibals strategy and his inspiring leadership went a long way in ensuring the success of his mission. He was duly honoured with the Mahavir chakra.
